Walking from Drumnadrochit to Invermoriston, this small but cosy pottery/café was the perfect stop for some coffee and cake. And what a cake, a whisky fruit cake like that I have never tasted before! Very kind staff and a friendly conversation with the pottery maker made us feel very welcome. Will definitely visit again if we get the chance!
To find this place starting from Drumnadrochit you have to take the road signposted Bunloit and then drive along a narrow road with hairpin bends for about 6km until you arrive at a car park which is the starting point for climbing Meall Fuar-mhonaidh. It's also on the route of the Great Glen Way which probably is the source of most of the customers. It's a lovely homely location which draws you in, but it is very small. there are only two tables. We were a party of 8 and basically filled the place so another couple turned away. There is an adjacent pottery and you can see examples of the work round the walls and buy them if you want. It claims to serve light lunches, but I saw no evidence of that mid afternoon. In any case we wanted tea and coffee and maybe a cake. The coffee was served in a huge espresso maker which the owner said was enough for 16 Italians. That may be so, but the 5 of us only got one cup and there was nothing left for a refill. I had the whisky cake which was very tasty, and so was the shortbread. It's a quaint and charming little place, and worth visiting if you find yourself in the area, but it's pretty basic really so don't expect anything too fancy.
On my walk on the Great Glen Way I found this lovely and gorgeous pottery and cafe by accident. Immediately I fell in love with a beautiful cup in a light blue colour and with a moth in front. The service was super and the cake was delicious. A hidden gem! thanks!
Based on other reviews on Trip Advisor we drove the narrow, uphill, one lane roads for lunch to find out they only had cake and for lunch we needed reservations. The facility is a bit “rough” - the only saving part was the view overlooking the town below. If you go beware & cautious of the potholes. After visiting the facility I wouldn’t make reservations to eat there.
Needed this stop on our Great Glen Way walk and experienced wonderful hospitality, lovely coffee, and excellent whisky cake. Limited menu but really worth the visit
